Truly A Blessing…….
“On a Ring and Prayer” (http://www.flickerofhope.org/book.htm) is a really good book, but it may not appeal to everyone. But it has surely touched my life in so many ways.
It is a biography about a man named David Borowski. Dave was a normal happy, and healthy six-month old baby, but the night of his Christening things took a turn for the worst. David was from Buffalo New, York and he was born on January 22, 1954. Just like any parent would do, his mother counted all ten of his fingers, and all ten of his toes when he was born. On a cold March night Dave’s mother laid him down for him to take a nap in his wicker bassinet. The family puppy came into the room where Dave was sleeping and started to chew on some hanging wires. When he let the wires go it sparked a fire onto Dave’s bassinet, and within minutes Dave was on fire.
Dave had second, and third degree burns over seventy percent of his body. Dave didn’t let any of this stop him. Although he barely graduated out of high school due to all of the teenage temptations and being picked, he went on to graduate from Canisius College with an advanced degree in economics and finance. He is now a director a at Freddie Mac one of the wealthiest finacial organizations in the world.
This story really touched me in many ways. I’am also a burn survior, and just from reading Dave’s story I know that I can also do the things that I want to do, and be the most successful person that I can be. I was able to graduate from high school ranking number three in my class. Now I’am a college student in one of the top schools in Maryland. Hopefully one day I will be as successful as Dave, and will be able to write and publish my own book to inspire others.
I have had the pleasure of meeting Dave and was able to spend a lot of time with him. I have known him for several years now, because he speaks at one of the burn camps for young burn survivors that I attend. He is a really sweet and humble guy, and he is truly amazing.

Move Over Disney….

I absolutley love to read Essence magazine, I’am into my culture a lot. I love to look at the front cover and see a African-American model, celebrity, or just regular folks on the front cover.
It’s not that often that you can get a magazine that’s full of diversity. One day I hope to be working for Essence magazine, like conducting interviews with celebrities, congress members, and people in the community. If I would work for them I would conduct buisness similar to Disney.
Disney have so many ideas, and they are always cross promoting, and that is what I hope to do with Essence. I mean who would ever think that Disney would have their own radio station for children to listen to. They already have clothes, shoes, television, and even a amusement park. I couldn’t do this with Essence, but it worked great for Disney.
For Essence I would start off by publishing a book on the founder and creator of Essence. Next Essence would develop their very own clothing line. It would represent whatever was that month’s fashion, and it would be advertised in the magazine. Instead of them advertising someone else’s fashion, why not advertise their own? Essence would then have their own radio station. I know people are thinking why have a radio station when you already have a magazine. Well my answer to that is some people don’t like to spend money on magazines, when they know that all their going to do is throw it away.
Also people are extreme enviornmentalists, and they want to ” Save The Trees”. So by having a radio station people canlisten to it instead of reading it. They could hear about sales that are going on at their favorite stores. The could hear live uncut interviews, and listen to a variety of music. Plus you can’t read and drive, so why not listen and drive?

Facebook, MySpace, It’s All The Same

I remember when I got my first MySpace page. I was fifteen, and in my freshmen year of high school. I had vowed to myself that I wasn’t ever going to get a MySpace page, a Facebook page, or any other page for that matter.
My friend kept asking me if I was ever going to get a page, and I kept telling her “No”, but she wouldn’t take no for an answer. So finally two weeks later I got my first MySpace page. To me at the time MySpace was everything I could upload pictures of me and my friends, change my background or the layout of my page, add my favorite music, and add friends. It was a big deal when you friend wasn’t on your top or vice versa. It would mean that your best friend wasn’t really your true friend. I used to be so hurt when I was wasn’t on my best friend’s top. But now looking back on all of this it was SO DUMB!
Now a days we have the social network Facebook, I remember when there was a time when if you weren’t a college student you couldn’t get a Facebook. Now all of that has changed, my little brother who is only fourteen, and my cousin who is twelve has a Facebook, and a MySpace page. http://topics.nytimes.com/topics/news/business/companies/facebook_inc/index.html
Many people who use Facebook say that they use it to connect with others who have the same common interest, and also to find old classmates. All of this is true, but people use these social networking sites to harass, bully, and talk about people. When you see someone who had a crazy multi colored dress on for prom with a messed up hair style you will talk about them. You will be telling everybody the next day or the same night about this hideous dress, and in return all of them will look at the pictures and talk about them untill eventually everyone know’s about it.
People also use sites like Facebook, and MySpace to put up inappropriate pictures of themselves. I figure that most of them do it because they don’t get enough attention at home or from their friends so this is a way that they will be able to get attention. This isn’t good because what was once so cute and sexy isn’t anymore isn’t when you find out that you didn’t get the job that you wanted because of some pictures.
Now a days people use these social sites to conduct job interviews, to do school work like in a mass communications classes in college. We can also post our feelings because some people are afraid to be their real selves so they see these sites as a breakthrough for them to be theirselves. We can find long lost relatives, friends, classmates. As well as to even find significant others.

The Future Is Wild !!!!
WOW I’m so angry I’m stuck in traffic in mid air. How could this be? I have the same questions, would you believe that about twenty-seven years ago we were on the ground. Twenty minutes later I’m finally out of traffic, but here is some idiot flying over top of my energy 2.0 flyer, on his jet pack. Oh I’m sorry I didn’t tell you that it’s the year 2035, Yes you read right 2035.
In the year 2035 I have a house that has its own virtual maid. I even got to name it, because she’s actual like a real person just without a body. I named her Helen standing for (Helping Entertainment Loading Efficient Networks). Helen is so sweet, she does everything that I ask her to. We always have conversations and we talk about everything from a funny comedy show, to a cartoon, to a stupid reality show. She also, always keep me posted on the latest news stories. Helen does everything from dusting, to moping, to straightening up my bed, to even setting up decorations if I want to throw a party, just like in the movie “SmartHouse” this movie was amazing and I knew that it wouldn’t be long before we had smart homes in real life. When something spills I don’t have to lift a finger because Helen will just absorb it into the floor and suck it up.
When I’am hungry all I have to do is shout out “spaghetti and garlic bread” and if that is what I want, it will appear in front of me no matter where I’am in my house. When I’am ready to move all I have to do is fold up my house like a piece of clothing by entering a password and pressing a button on the side of my house. Isn’t that so cool?
Well now I have finally made it to work, I wouldn’t really call it work, because all I do is sit in my office and look at a gigantic screen that overlooks the city. I can put my hand on the screen and zoom in to anyplace in the city that I want. Since I’m a journalists I can report on anything that I find interesting. Now that it’s 2035 I’am able to print out my stories the same day, well I shouldn’t really say “print” I should say send out via text messaging and through something that this new era calls virtual walls. Whenever I have a story I’m able to send it to thousands of people by sending it straight to their homes. It will just show up on their walls, and they can either scroll through it by using their hands or they can listen to it.
I’m also able to travel around the world if I have to, to report on a story that is going on in different countries. And get this I can do all of this just by sitting in my office. All four of my walls will have the country on them, the different sounds, and temperatures will also fill my office. It’s like being in a virtual world, and no-one doesn’t have to know that I’m there. 2035 is Awesome wouldn’t you say so too?
